SCIENCE STUDY FOCUS

We will be having our science unit test next week. The grade fives have been working on Conservation of Energy and the grade sixes have been learning about Electricity.

GRADE 5 -AREAS AND MATERIAL TO CONCENTRATE ON


  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF ENERGY AND GIVE EXAMPLES
  • EXPLAIN AND GIVE EXAMPLES OF ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS
  • DISCUSS AND EXPLAIN WHY ENERGY CANNOT BE CREATED OR DESTROYED
  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (I.E. NUCLEAR, COAL, SOLAR ETC)
  • BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY WE USE
  • DISCUSS AND GIVE EXAMPLES OF WAYS WE CAN CONSERVE ENERGY AT  HOME
GRADE 6- AREAS AND MATERIAL TO CONCENTRATE ON

  • KNOW THE DEFINITION OF CONDUCTOR AND INSULATOR AND GIVE EXAMPLES OF BOTH
  • BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN AND GIVE EXAMPLES HOW ENERGY IS TRANSFORMED FROM ONE TYPE ANOTHER
  • BE ABLE TO DRAW THE SYMBOLS FOR THE ELECTRICAL DEVICES WE USED TO CREATE CIRCUITS (LIGHT BULB, LED LIGHT, A SWITCH, A BATTERY)
  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS SERIES AND PARALLEL CIRCUITS (DIFFERENCES, SIMILARITIES, WHICH SITUATIONS WHERE A SERIES OR PARALLEL CIRCUIT SHOULD BE USED
  • BE ABLE TO DRAW A SPECIFC CIRCUIT USING THE APPROPRIATE SYMBOLS
  • BE ABLE DISCUSS AND COMPARE DIFFERENT SOURCES OF ELECTRICITY (SOLAR, WIND, COAL ETC.)
