Important Note!!

Every family in the W.E.C.D.S.B was sent  an important letter home tonight. The Board's goal is to begin an open and frank discussion around social media and our kids. As a parent of pre-teen children, I'm very nervous and overwhelmed with the social media landscape. Please read the letter and sign the agenda to let me know you received the letter. I would just to congratulate all of our Award Winners today. Joseph and Katarina for our monthly W.O.W awards. The theme this month was Lenten  Promise Keepers. Isaac and Serafina were recognized because of a writing contest they won!! They were both chosen as recipients of a Young Writers award.

SCIENCE STUDY FOCUS

We will be having our science unit test next week. The grade fives have been working on Conservation of Energy and the grade sixes have been learning about Electricity.

GRADE 5 -AREAS AND MATERIAL TO CONCENTRATE ON


  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF ENERGY AND GIVE EXAMPLES
  • EXPLAIN AND GIVE EXAMPLES OF ENERGY TRANSFORMATIONS
  • DISCUSS AND EXPLAIN WHY ENERGY CANNOT BE CREATED OR DESTROYED
  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES (I.E. NUCLEAR, COAL, SOLAR ETC)

  • BE ABLE TO DRAW THE SYMBOLS FOR THE ELECTRICAL DEVICES WE USED TO CREATE CIRCUITS (LIGHT BULB, LED LIGHT, A SWITCH, A BATTERY)
  • BE ABLE TO DISCUSS SERIES AND PARALLEL CIRCUITS (DIFFERENCES, SIMILARITIES, WHICH SITUATIONS WHERE A SERIES OR PARALLEL CIRCUIT SHOULD BE USED

Building the Home of the Future


  The grade 5's are working on creating the energy efficient home of the future. They are using energy materials and technologies to reduce the overall amount of energy used. The other critical idea is  to use renewable energy sources to power your home

Please follow the link below to the school climate survey. The Ministry of Education would like some feedback from kids regarding their feelings towards their school. You will remember that a letter went home last week giving parents the option to either opt in or out of the survey. I thought it would be easier if I put the link on the blog and allowed students to complete the survey at their leisure.

DIRECTLY FROM THE SURVEY:
