Oops! That lesson flopped!

No matter how smart we think we are (and I'm pretty smart)lessons  sometimes fail miserably. We have been working on identifying attributes of 2d figures and 3d solids. An attribute would be:  2 equal sides, 1 pair of parallel sides, or opposite angles are equal. These are just a few examples of attributes. The students need to be able to identify, sort and compare shapes based on attributes. Well, somewhere along the way we didn't 'get it', as the kids say. Today we are playing a game that reinforces identifying attributes and then allows kids to come up with secret attribute rules that team members need to discover. Sometimes playing, rather than teaching can be a more effective way to teach!!
