THE START OF A GREAT YEAR!!

Another start to what is going to be a great year!! We started to get to know each other today. We worked on some name games to begin to meld the  two school communities together. We worked on 1 of our 3 pillars that we need to be successful community members. A very busy  first day for all.
Our 3 Pillars for the classroom this year will be Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening and No Put downs. Today we talked about what Respect, LOOKS LIKE, SOUNDS LIKE AND FEELS LIKE.  I will be posting an image of our Anchor Chart of our Pillars over the next few days. Please try and scroll down to the bottom of the blog and register with your email address. I have sent home a few notes today, so please check out the back pack.

Thank You

PROBABILITY EXPERIMENTS

It's UNLIKELY that I will be able to run a marathon next month.  It's CERTAIN that the sun will rise in the east tomorrow. If I roll a die, my probability of rolling a 2 is 1 out of 6 or 1/6th

PROBABILITY  IS OUR NEXT UNIT AND THE TERMS ABOVE ARE SOME OF THE KEY MATH CONCEPTS WE WILL BE LEARNING OVER THE COURSE OF THE UNIT.

I am including a  video and a link for a probability game below to help the students understand some of the key concepts we will be learning. Watch the video first and then play the game.

Grandparent Fun Day!!

Thank you to all the grandparents that took time to be with us today. It's nice to put faces to names of family members. Check out the pictures below of our fun board game afternoon.

MOTION GEOMETRY

We will be starting a unit on Motion Geometry early next week. Motion Geometry involves the specific movement of geometric shapes. We use language like  TRANSLATIONS (SLIDE). ROTATIONS (TURNS) AND REFLECTIONS (FLIPS). We will be stressing that the students use the proper vocabulary and terms to describe the translations, rotations and reflections. There are a few videos below that will help them get ready for the unit. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school or add a comment at the bottom of the blog post.

Check out this video below that shows students the real-world applications of motion geometry and the skills required to bring our imaginations to life.
