PERIMETER AND AREA
I'm posting a couple of you tube videos to help the students get a different perspective on perimeter and area. I encourage you to watch the videos with your child. Students seem to find these short videos engaging and entertaining. The nice thing about the videos is that they can be paused at any point, giving students some control over the pace of the instruction.
GRADE 3 SCIENCE TEST
The grade 3's will have their science test Wednesday or Thursday next week. Check the agenda on Tuesday for the exact day. We are completing a review in the classroom together that they can use to help them study, along with their other notes during the unit. They should also be reading over page 38 and 39 in their textbook for additional review information. Along with the test, the grade 3's will be using what they've learned in this unit to create a stable structure that incorporates the key elements in the unit.

SWIM TO SURVIVE DATES
Hello to all our St.John family. I just want to remind parents that our Swim to Survive dates are April 6th, 12th and 13th. There was a mistake on the school calendar that went home yesterday. Please replace the April 14th date that is on the paper calendar. The students will need a towel and bathing suit on those dates. The bus will pick us up at about 12:30 and we should be back by 2:30.

Lights ! Camera ! Action! Media and the Message
Students are growing up in a digital age. They are exposed to multiple forms of media from the time they can sit up in a highchair or stroller. It's critical that they understand how media works and how to dissect media in order to understand it's message. The students spent the last several weeks looking and analyzing different types of messages in a variety of visual media. The videos below are their attempt to use media to create a video that would present their personal message in an effective way.

Hands on Fractions!!
Fractions are a foundational mathematical concept that students need to grasp. In the pictures below we are playing with Cuisenaire Rods. These rods are used to model equal sections that can be used to compare to longer rods. For example, it takes 3 equal white rods to make 1 red rod. Therefore white is 1/3 of red.

Build it ... And they will Come: Culminating Activity
The grade 4's have been learning all about forces, pulleys and gears. In this culminating activity they are creating a crane that incorporates all the simple machines and forces we have been learning about. Their crane must be able to move a load over an obstacle and gently lower it the the floor.
