SCIENCE TEST WEDNESDAY MARCH 2ND

The grade 3's have been learning about forces and the grade 4's have been learning about pulleys and gears. Both grades will be completing in class hands-on project that I will use to help assess their learning on these units. We will also be having a test on Wednesday, March 2nd for both grades. I will send home review questions that will help guide their studying. The idea is to complete a few questions a night and review them over the course of the week. This will ensure they have the required information and also leave them enough time to review the information.

MULTIPLICATION VIDEO HELP

I am including links to two short videos that the students can view to help support them with this unit. I would suggest watching with your child and pausing the video to check their understanding. The first video is roughly 2 minutes and the second video is about 5 minutes long.

Multiplication and Division

We are starting a unit on multiplication and division in the next few days. These are foundational skills that must be mastered in order to do higher level math. The basis for multiplication starts off in grade 1 and 2 when we begin to skip count with students on the 100 chart. Multiplication is in essence repeated addition. We will be looking at the link between addition and multiplication first and then we will move on to using arrays for multiplication. I will talk more about arrays in the next few days. Below you will see the anchor chart that we will go over in class with the students. The anchor charts stay in the class and are there as a support for the students to use whenever they need a reminder. I encourage to practice with your child every chance you get.

Money, money, money...we could all use some!!

We will be working with money for the next week. This is one of those math skills that is absolutely critical in life. We've all experienced being at a Checkout when the register doesn't work and the sales person has no idea how to make change. Please have your child practise making change and paying for items over the next few weeks. Have them try to guess what the change back should be. I am posting a picture of the anchor chart we are introducing today in class.
